But was it still usable?

Harmine AND Dimethyltryptamine? Sounds like an ayahuasca party.

“A pouch made from three fox snouts.”

I’m going to have to ponder that one for a while.

Fox Snout Bag. Now that’s groovy.

The presence of these drugs suggests the pouch may have belonged to a ritual specialist or shaman with extensive knowledge of plants and their psychoactive properties, and used to hold leaves, seeds and other plant matter.

That, or some teenagers hiding their stash from the cops.

I’ve still got traces as well.

Time to scrape the bowl!

That snout bag… the woven material used in it is simply stunning, as is the carving on the implements.

It’s always tempting to consider cultures like this one “primitive”, but that craftsmanship shows that they were most certainly not.

They knew how to party back then, really far back then.

We are such a Eurocentric society that we fail to see the amazing cultures of our southern neighbors. These were people who appreciated the glory of the natural world as opposed to our current societies who are killing off biodiversity at an unprecedented rate. I really appreciate that there are a few people who are replanting ayahuasca and other psychoactive plants before those plants fall victim over consumption by tourists who go south for the buzz but fail to see the bigger picture of the forest that provide these wonders.

Tell me that there wasn’t a Grateful Dead t-shirt or ticket stubs in the bag.
