Forget cigarettes or opiates, flags are turning out to be the U.S.'s most toxic export.

Have been trying to see the foreign ministry’s website for a while to read the response, and ends up it went down shortly after they posted the response. >.>

The quotes from the response I am seeing remain completely inflexible. They want NATO rolled back to 1997. They also reiterate:

“In the absence of the readiness of the American side to agree on firm, legally binding guarantees to ensure our security from the United States and its allies, Russia will be forced to respond, including through the implementation of military-technical measures.”

Not sure if this will work, but here goes:

Linked it through google translate, seems to work. Some interesting things in there. They reiterate their belief that the Ukrainian government is the product of a US backed coup.

Russia’s attitude is much like a cat caught sneaking up to pounce when it realises the “prey” is watching, how the cat will clean itself to pretend it was never interested. Or like the bully when ratted out on: “I was never gonna punch that nerd, he’s been telling lies! Hey nerd, where did I punch you! That’s right, it never happened! I never was gonna hit you, so stop spreading lies about me! I’m the victim here!”

Of course they won’t roll Crimea back to 1997.

This seems ominous

The order to evacuate is supposedly in response to yesterday’s re-intensified fighting along the frontline in Eastern Ukraine, but the videos announcing the evacuation were apparently filmed two days ago.

Looks like a very crude attempt to manufacture a casus belli, and everyone understands it:

I’m thinking they’ll go on the day after the end of the olympics.

That’s what I’ve been expecting. I don’t have a source for it, but I read or saw something weeks ago regarding Xi telling Putin to wait until after the Olympics.

Yeah, I remember that, too, but don’t remember where, but it was around the start of the games… which in pandemic time seems like months ago now.

I heard it around then as well…had something to do with Xi not wanting an invasion to distract from the games.

Indeed. Xi and Putin are thick as thieves lately…

Yeah and based on the continued Russian troop build up, evacuation of civilians and construction of field hospitals, makes me think the Xi and Putin info was correct.

Yeppers. It’s kind of weird that that was bandied about for about a day and then the date of the 16th was floating around for a bit…

Honestly, I’m exhausted hearing about it in general, so I can’t imagine how the people in Ukraine must be feeling right now.

Yeah it has to be terrifying being a Ukrainian right now. I feel incredibly privileged living in a country that won’t ever face the threat of invasion, at least for the foreseeable future.
