He likened Mexico…to Venezuela, …suggesting it was on the verge of a collapse that would have repercussions in the United States, according to two people who attended the meeting
Good lord. Mexico is all kinds of fucked up. On the verge of collapse? It’s not even close. Kelly isn’t “nutty”, he’s willfully ignorant. Forget the White House, that he was able to rise to the level general officer, or field grade officer for that matter, in the U.S. Marine Corps is frightening, How many more of these high ranking half wits are there in the U.S. military? Never mind. Don’t answer that.
Uri Friedman isn’t my favorite Atlantic author and that series of articles is a great example of why. Starts out one direction, contradicts himself and then kinda meanders off into the field.
Here he presents McMaster’s statement as if it is unjustified, then goes on to justify the statement then just wanders off point for a while. At least the linked War on the Rocks article explains the situation in better depth.
After reading a breakdown of Trumps speech, I am thinking about watching the whole think.
The comment I read said, with singe hinted surprise, that he was coherent in both views and speech. Not that it made the content any better.
700 billion spending on military, unilateralism, and a threat of total war doesn’t, in fact, sound like Trump didn’t believe what he was saying. He also didn’t mention climate change, at all.
Well, I don’t know if I really can watch this. 40 minutes of this are probably a bad idea.
