The FT’s weekend art section is titled “Collecting”. Someone on the Internet (perhaps here) remarked the other day that high-value art is about giving the rich extremely valuable, relatively portable objects that they can take with them if they are ever forced to flee their estate.

They won’t even have to take their high-value art with them when they have to bug out - the art will be waiting for them where they’ll go to.
