Well, sure, when you truncate the quote like that it’s easy to make anyone look stupid.
what you quoted:
perpetual motion machine
What was said
almost a perpetual motion machine
That ‘almost’ is quite important.

Because FREEDOM!
All right. Just so you know that if an escalator is substantially shorter than ten stories (115 foot vertical rise), it is liable to be one upped.
Hah! You call that an escalator? This is an escalator!
Yes. Did it while wearing a pair if tan khakis…
Had a black stripe across my ass all night.

I love the way they build up and build up then the system collapses and we get a brand new cascade!
Look man, I have enough trouble falling down regular stairs. Stairs that move are just asking for trouble.
Sounds like the financialized economy.
Neverending fall!
…also, what about dumping a huge ball of plastic bags onto an escalator?
Did I mention “pedantic Boingboing readers”…?
Yerah, those guys are the easiest to make look stupid!
Well that escalatored quickly…
That might be their purpose, but I can assure you they don’t work in this instance. These escalators are at my university, they’re always moving, except at night or just as frequently when they’ve broken down.
The building they’re in is a horrid building with just enough “whacky 90s vision” to make it seem like it might have once been considered innovative and interesting, but realistically is a craphole with poor natural light, horrible artificial air and a dizzying maze of winding corridors and misplaced escalators and elevators.
Yeah, that guy didn’t look too impressed. I was hoping to see someone get on the escalator anyway. I usually walk up along with the stairs, but in this case, I think I’d just stand for the ride.
I watched this nearly all the way through before I realised that it was filmed at my university - RMIT in Melbourne Australia. Building 8, level 4 up to level 6 outside the library.
