Elections 2018

Protip: if you want to actually win people over, calling them sheep and generally mocking them, followed by lies and hyperbole is not the way to do it.

On the other hand, if you just want the satisfaction of being Obviously Right, and lording it over those Deluded Idiots who foolishly have different ideas than yourself and may even have the temerity of gainsaying you by pointing out your claims are rubbish and no amount of Significant Capital Letters will make them true, this will do nicely.

Also, if you are a troll (independent or pro-Putin) just trying to stir shit up, refight the 2016 Democratic primary, and split the leftist vote with your BernieBro bullshit, that works too, I guess.

Looks like you’ve only been with us about a year or so. If you’d been here during the election, you’d have seen that many of us were (and are) Sanders voters, and very inclined toward the Democratic Socialists.

The other day, I was at my local farmers market, and was pulling out of the parking lot, as I drove by the two booths set up for the political propaganda agents for the Democrats and Republicans, where they hand out yard signs to people who want them. There’s a real right-wing nutjob running for Congress in my district this year. One of the signs that they had on display read “The Democrats are the party of MOB RULE. Live FREE. Vote Republican.”

I have to admit, it made me want to punch somebody in the nose.

Mob rule, they say?

Loyalists were cautious and afraid of anarchy or tyranny that might come from mob rule;

From Wikipedia’s page on Loyalists:

about 15 percent of the Loyalists (65,000–70,000 people) fled to other parts of the British Empire, to Britain itself, or to British North America (now Canada)… Northern Loyalists largely migrated to Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. They called themselves United Empire Loyalists. Most were compensated with Canadian land or British cash distributed through formal claims procedures.

It’d be a beautiful thing for Canada to extend invitations to asylum-seekers from the
U.S. There isn’t much of an empire these days, but Canada’s soliciting international tech help, and people should be able to escape mob (including mafiya, Mafiia) rule if they have reason to fear oppression.

I have hope, but no actual assurance, enough awakened and aware American citizens will correct their nation’s history trajectory. But I have a place to move to if they don’t. Citizens must vote as if they have no place to flee to should the Mob rule continue.

"“I believe that people have a right to decide their own destiny; people own themselves. I also believe that, in a democracy, government exists because (and only as long as) individual citizens give it a “temporary license to exist” - in exchange for a promise that it will behave itself. In a democracy you own the government - it doesn’t own you. Along with this comes a responsibility to ensure that individual actions, in the pursuit of a personal destiny, do not threaten the well-being of others while the “pursuit” is in progress.”

My point was more that it’s silly and hypocritical for a supposed “populist movement” like Trump supporters using the term mob rule as a slur against Democrats and others.

That term has always been the slur by the wealthy landowners against anything that might jeopardize their position.

It’s a telling sign that the alt-right’s slogans are being written by privileged elites in Republican “think tanks”.

I thought nowadays Mob Rule is the Mafiya or oligarchic possession and manipulation of federal legislators whose actual employers are the American people (cf. Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Dana Rohrabacher, Devin Nunes, Lindsey Graham and 100+ others), and everything those owned by the Mob say about Mob rule is projection.

Both suppositions can be correct.

It really is tough to think of a potential candidate on the Dem side that I consider inspiring . . . le sigh

Remember when the R’s were trying to convince themselves that Mitt Romney was “plausible”?

That’s where we’re at. Cory Booker is plausible. Sure why not.

Yeah, I do remember.

Hmm. I wonder who could be the Dem version of Trump? Not odious and nasty like Trump, but in a sort of “who woulda thunk THAT person would win the nomination?!” way?

And Cory Booker?? Only if he’s changed his corporate-loving ways; I haven’t kept up with him. Wasn’t he pushing charter schools a while back?

I think that possibility was floated awhile back, and then quickly deflated and sank.
