Electro-swing: glitchy, jazzy, uptempo music

Some of Stephen Coates’ tracks had the same sort of sound, back when he was in his Al Bowlly phase. Try this:

Although the roots are different, Nortec does the same happy dance for me:

Why does anyone think referencing the past while going thump-thump-thump is any form of innovation? It sounds like any other thump-thump-thump crap and I’m missing any reference to the past (Al Bowlly? No. Andrews Sisters? No.). All I see here is using the past as an excuse to recycle annoying sounds. There is nothing creative or innovative here. I’ll stick to discovering innovative sounds in their original format, on a fragile piece of shellac spinning at 78 rpm.

No love for the fantastic ‘national fanfare of kadebostany’ very surprised.

This exactly! Plus thanks to you, Cory, for starting it.

My HS English teacher was nuts about the green light. Well, symbolism in general, which I’m pretty sure she made most of up. Anyway… I blew her mind by telling her that the green light symbolized “go”.

As for Electroswing, emphatically yes to Parov Stelar & Gotan Project. Catgroove is an incredibly infectious and danceable song. Now if we could just get a greater number of the songs and more variety I’d be a very happy camper.

Gramatik is amazing (as is just about everyone on the Pretty Lights label). One of his tracks, ‘The Drink is Called Rakija’, can best be described as Electro-Klezmer. I would be eternally grateful to anyone who could point me towards more of that similar sound.

Caravan Palace finally did a US tour this year, and I missed the Chicago date. However, at least they’ve posted vids of their live set in Paris (which looks AMAZING):

I’m sure it’s on someone’s Electro-Swing list, but damn if I don’t love Caro Emerald as well.

Gotta pimp a friend of mine, who has done a few mixes:

Maybe this is a suggestion to

If you like electro-swing but maybe wish it was a little darker, you’ll probably enjoy Whitey’s album “Canned Laughter”. Check the track Count Those Freaks for starters.

And yes, that’s Whitey, author of the epic rant about being asked to give away his music for free to a TV production company.

This is what it sounds like when you take everything that’s good about swing era jazz…and throw it away, leaving just a husk.

It has as much to do with “swing” as “Winchester Cathedral” had to do with '20s jazz.

In a very short time, this music is going to be very embarrassing. It’s basically the same as Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony to a disco beat. For two weeks, I bet that tore it up in the discos.

There’s also the long-running Verve Remixed series. It doesn’t qualify as electro-swing, but my favorite remix from the series is probably the Junior Boys remix of “Yesterdays” by Billie Holiday.

This may or may not qualify, but Swing Set by Jurassic 5 is some sort of mashup/sampling/swing mix and you will probably like it

Missed if posted but just gots so funky swing stuff off their soundcloud.

Bart & Baker electroswing remix of Postmodern Jukebox’s cover of Macklemore’s Thrift Shop.

Came across these guys in 2002 when they had a 12" white label out on a small British label. Fast forward most of a decade and I stumbled across their long-delayed debut album. I think you might like it

Also, this remix of Dean Martin & Julie LOndon’s ‘Sway’ by The Rip-Off Artist has always been a big favourite with me. If you want glitch and swing this has it in spades.

It was by far the best track on an otherwise mediocre compilation. Somewhat randomly it was used for a BBC TV station ident 10 or more years ago, featuring one of the first demonstrations of parkour on mainstream media here in the UK (some guy jumping over London rooftops to get back home to watch the telly). Enjoy!

Electro Swing Italia is a new project born in 2013.
