Sorry. I thought you were saying that there aren’t good faith arguments against either of them.
Not at all. This is a thread about Warren.
@dorgar was responding to @Flapjack , who was the one who made the comparison. That was only about 5 posts prior.
Relevant op-ed in the NYT:
Which is perhaps why we’re seeing a crisis of confidence that a woman can win, one that was mapped onto Ms. Warren, who, it should be said, is an entirely different person and a very different candidate from Mrs. Clinton. It’s perhaps why, despite the best efforts of leftist feminists, we’re seeing the rise of anti-feminism on the left, including the embrace of anti-abortion “progressives” and the elevation of leftist culture-makers who are both beloved and unapologetically (they would perhaps say ironically) sexist.
But this urge — to demand perfection from women in the face of ever-changing requirements and with absolutely no model for what a “perfect” political woman might look like, and then to put imperfect women out to pasture once we don’t see any route for them to accomplish what we want — is one of many reasons we’ve never had a woman in the White House, and is one of many reasons we hemorrhage top female talent in nearly every industry and field. If we continue to proclaim confidence that we will have a female president one day while cautioning against it happening right now , or with this woman, we are signing up for male rule into perpetuity.
Interesting piece. I can’t speak for anyone else, just myself, and I think there will be a woman president in the US within the next few elections.
Until Obama won, I thought we would have a woman in the Oval way before any non caucasian. I voted for Obama on his first term, I must admit, partly because he was an exciting milestone as maybe the first black president in US History, I still liked him from his time in congress quite a bit but the historical significance was certainly a factor. With Hilary, I wanted to do the same with my vote but her actions were just so awful that I could not bring myself to doing it and voted for an independent candidate. I have no doubt we will have a female prez any time now.
You mean, her actions in implementing the policy of her boss, for whom you voted? Or are you still mad about the cookies thing?
I hold people responsible for their own actions and words and never accept the “I was followimg orders” excuse. Furthermore, I did not vote for Obama the second time, not even slightly.
If your policy is never to vote for a candidate who makes some decisions with which you disagree, then you might as well burn your voter’s registration card. Generally the best one can hope for is to have someone in office who is smart, experienced, devoted to public service, well-intentioned, and generally in agreement with you on policy issues.(1) If you hold out for perfection, you get Trump.
(1) Practically the definition of Warren.
If I was registered for any party I would have voted for Warren 100% for sure in the primaries and in the General. I don’t look for perfection as I am not a fool. Hillary was a terrible person in my book, not just slightly flawed and I’m basing my assesment on her actions from all the way back in Arkansas, before her husband was President.
Arkansas.
Whew, then it is a good thing she didn’t win! Dodged that one with a bullet!
Thanks, fixed it.
