Elon Musk again insinuates cave diver is a pedophile: "You don't think it's strange he hasn't sued me?"

Yeah. I’d guess that SF probably has more than other places, given the prevalence of the tech industry. Same reason I think here in the ATL.

I’m pretty sure the HQ is located somewhere around here; I know at least 3 people who work for or with Tesla, in some capacity.

Oh yeah, that too. I hadn’t thought of that.

I don’t trust men with hair implants.
As a philosophy it isn’t much, but it has served me well so far.

You know, I really didn’t want to wade into this mire, but there is context here for Musk’s remarks. He was responding to a, however improbable, proposal that Musk be subjected to violent anal rape. His “pedo” response is , again, in context. Twitter’s not a bar fight, but present usage has given it some of the same qualities. Should Musk chill? Definitely. Might he find himself in legal trouble? Yes. Is Tesla worthwhile? However many Leaf and Prius sales have been made, Tesla has made electric cars cool. They’re the only electric cars I see where I live. I expect that’s because the others aren’t noticed. I have a suspicion Musk’s ultimate goal with Tesla is to dominate the charging network in the U.S. Ultimately, others will make cool electric cars more effectively, but the charging network will always have value. 120 years ago would you rather be Ford or Standard Oil? Is SpaceX worthwhile? Ya, chemical rockets are not the ultimate answer, but they’re the one we have now. SpaceX is spearheading low cost access to space in a way the established launch providers would never have, and is energizing a new generation of motivated visionaries. Would I want to work for Musk? Nopey nope nope.

Betamax sends it’s regards

FROM THE GRAVE

From what I understand the exact comment that prompted all this overreaction from Musk was “stick his submarine where it hurts.”

Basically he told him the equivalent of “go fuck yourself with your useless machine.” That’s not quite the same as saying, ‘I hope you get raped,’ nor any threat thereof.

Regardless to his inventiveness or ingenuity, it’s really disturbing to me how many people seem to think that any virtues Mr. Musk possesses somehow negate or excuses his unprofessional, immature behavior.

O_O

While the diver may have said something that was offensive, Musk doubling down on his childish retaliation of making unfounded accusations of pedophilia says more about his character than anyone else’s.

The account I read said “shove it up his ass”. Don’t remember where, it was contemporary to the event, and I wasn’t that interested at the time. In any case, roughly equivalent… Do I think Musk’s behaviour was appropriate? No, I think it was reckless. I think getting involved in the cave rescue was reckless. No good could come from it from the point of view of his business interests. His exchange with Unsworth was a prelude to a couple BROs dropping the gloves, nothing more. Unfortunately, Twitter is not “The Malamute Saloon” . Musk’s more egregious acts wrt to Twitter are related to statements made about the state and future of his business interests, particularly Tesla, which seem to have resulted in wild swings of the stock price. Money was made and lost . That attracts the attention of regulators. Just being a goof ( i.e. re Unsworth ) may also impact the stock price but that’s not an SEC issue.

The phrasing is less relevant than the needless escalation and consequent risk to his business interests.

Adults should act like adults, regardless of how much money or prestige they may have.

I don’t think we disagree, here  I formed my opinion of Musk many years ago when I read Justine Musk’s blog. She essentially described what I think people call “toxic masculinity”. Again don’t remember the details, but overall impression of his personality was negative. Still think Tesla and SpaceX have value, still think much of that value can be attributed to Elon Musk

That’s fine; there is a difference between the man himself and his work.

And the work itself isn’t what’s being criticized here; the man and his misbehavior are.

That does seem to be a big factor… and it’s to Musk’s own detriment.

Well, you’re not criticizing “his work”, but a good number of the other posts in this thread are :):slightly_smiling_face:

I’m only responsible for what I post.

Oh ya, I’m just framing the content of my original post upthread.

And I’m just tired of overzealous fanboys acting like Musk (or anyone) is somehow above and beyond even constructive criticism; and sadly, that’s often the case whenever any news about him comes up.

Thanks for the civil exchange, and have a great weekend.
