I’m shorting Tesla stock right now! (apparently) /s
Odd thing is, that wasn’t a lie - it was an attempt to be both honest and funny.
Bill was mildly asthmatic in college. He happily accepted a joint when it came his way, but coughed and choked and sputtered. So he decided it wasn’t for him.
When asked, he didn’t want to lie and say he never smoked dope - goodness, this was the '60’s, almost everyone smoked dope. (Or at least tried!)
So he was trying to honestly convey that, although he wasn’t a habitual dope smoker, it wasn’t for lack of trying. (-:
And to be funny at the same time.
Fatal combination, I guess. )-:
It depends on what the meaning of the word smoke is.
[Edited for typo.]
If he was trying to be honest - he would have just said that he did smoke weed. Not that he didn’t inhale- and only tried it in England - so he didn’t break any US laws.
Unless he did it for England.
I am if I’m keeping you lot talking, right? The stockbots aren’t parsing the arguments, they’re just gauging the noise level and looking for keywords.
(Actually, I hadn’t really thought about it in this case. The tweets were too obviously Bad Dad Jokes (he’s got a million of 'em - five sons, remember?), so I was attributing the current price dip to other factors. )
Tesla’s a “Story stock” - the value is not in the current balance sheets, it’s believing in the Story - the value delivered by “speeding up the transition to renewable energy™”, starting by electrifying transportation, making practical large-scale energy storage systems, and improving solar energy generation.
So it doesn’t really matter to me if Tesla didn’t quite hit its fourth-quarter targets. This is not a quarterly-bottom-line play.
But the stockbots still think it’s a car company bleeding money, so they nosedive on the slightest twitch in the 24Hr HypeCycle. And then prices come right back up again as rational investors seize the resulting buying opportunity.
It’s happened over and over with Tesla stock. The HypeCycle twitches don’t affect the actual long-term value of the company as understood by intelligent investors. It’s a recurring pattern.
I wish I’d had enough spare cash to to take advantage of all the twitches - I’d be rolling in it by now.
But he was trying to be honest AND funny. Like I said, fatal combination.
In politics, no good joke goes unpunished.
But thanks for your disclosure.
I’m actually far more critical – and far more informed about – things I’m invested in. So when the crowd gets wound up about Elon, I sometimes (probably foolishly) try to explain things from my understanding.
When concern trolls become concerned about “What will the stockholders think?”, I tell them how I see it from my vantage as a stockholder. Context, y’know?
But I’ve been told before that if I’m sufficiently well-informed about a company to have invested in its stock, I can’t have an “unbiased opinion”, so my obviously biased opinion is irrelevant. And possibly suspect.
(Though seriously, as noted above, if I were posting for profit™, I should be bleating along with the chorus, hoping to drive the stock price down temporarily so I could pick up more bargain-priced shares.)
Musk is a pathological douchebag and all around terrible person. He can go fuck himself.
AOC is a national treasure.
Sure… your comments here over the years reflect that claim perfectly, and no one has any valid reason to doubt you.
By the way, I’m personally not ‘wound up’ about your boy; I’m just tired of hearing about his every bowel movement and the people who are desperate to try to shine his turds.
If you’re making money because of the man, that’s great for you; at least that’s a somewhat understandable motive.
No X in Nixon
“Critical” as in “examined closely”, not as in “talk trash and throw shade.”
Like “movie critic” or "music critic’, y’know?
“Analytical”, not “negative.”
(You wanna see me pop off about Crazy Space Billionaires Doing Foolish Things, just get me started on Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic.)
(Though I usually only do that for paying audiences. )
Are Sneering Skeptics vs. Gullible Fanbois the only teams here?
I decline to join either.
I admire a great deal of what Elon Musk has accomplished, but he’s no hero. He’s just a man. An overworked, underslept, occasionally goofy man.
And I think Tesla’s a good retirement-bonus bet. But, no, no cultism involved.
Um, yeah, you’re not wound up at all. Nope, not a bit.
Thank you, Merriam Webster/Roget.
There’s no ‘team’ here and no “winning”; not everything is a zero sum situation, and I genuinely pity folks who actually see life that way.
Whatever, man.
I’m not the one who feels the need to ‘ride to the rescue’ every time someone I like gets criticized, but you do whatever floats your boat as long as it doesn’t rock mine.
Take care.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Every now and again I come across a sentence and think, “well, I’ve never seen that sentence before”.
This is one of those times.
I have heard that he makes great chocolate brownies
