'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked [UPDATE: Smollett charged with filing false report]

It was ‘pop’ where I grew up.

It’s “soft drinks/carbonated beverages” now.

I’m sure that Donald “I’m the least racist person you’ve ever met” Trump has made a statement condemning this attack.

Huh, nothing yet. What’s it been, 11 hours? Weird.

Still waiting.

I’ll check back later.

Later: Nope, nothing yet. He must be really busy today.

As a person of color and a woman, I have to perpetually ‘check my rage,’ lest I end up incarcerated or incurring needless lawsuits and court costs.

>_<

You’re right.

Buy me a baseball bat, and we’ll go for a drive. You point to it, I’ll break it. If confronted, I’ll just run and you can drive on like you don’t know me.

I don’t know that Trump’s okay matters or not.

Yeah, it gives them one more thing to hide behind, but these fuckers didn’t materialize with his election. They’ve been here all along. And now they are making themselves known, by their words, their actions, and their headwear.

I say we take that to heart. Know them.

And never let them forget that we know them, and never let them weasel out of it with words alone. Redemption is going to require action on their parts.

I’m not a religious person, at all, but when I was writing out “know them” it brought to mind a Bible verse that I had to look up to see if I had it correct (I didn’t):

Matthew 7:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Again, not religious, and I may be missing some context, but if ever the term “evil fruit from a corrupt tree” could be applied to a group, it’s these “MAGA” fucks.

(ETA) Upon further reflection, the fact that he stands with them and their hatred does, of course, matter. A strong President that stood up to this shit would make them go back into the shadows, and that ass is certainly not that President. No. He loves this. He doesn’t want it to stop. So by all means, fuck him with that cactus.

Aw… That may just be the sweetest offer to be an accessory to a crime that I’ve ever heard.

This likely puts a smile on Trump’s face; it’s worth a thousand of his candy-for-his-base tweets. So efficient.

I was all set to watch “Selma, Lord, Selma” on Saturday, featuring his sister Jurnee, a stand out actress as a child, then in films like that where she meets Martin Luther King. She was also in The Grest Debaters that shows a young James L. Farmer, before he went to prison instead of WWII and before CORE and the Freedom Rides.

This is awful, more than who it was done to. When I was fourteen I saw someone immolate himself, I can’t imagine a worse way to die. But this is an evil statement, so they were going to burn him and lynch him, I’m not sure which first. I’d like to hope that they were just making a threat, but that’s just as bad giving the history of lynching.

My great great grandfather stopped a lynching in Red River in 1870. That’s everyone’s duty, no matter the cost, it’s likely to be less than that to the victim. These things happen when nobody speaks up.

POSSIBLE hate crime?!?!? Are you fucking serious? This crime is about nothing but hate, ffs.

That’s what ‘the official sources’ (ie, the police) say.

Headlines all over the place are just straight-up calling it racist and a hate crime.

It’s pretty obviously a hate crime, but apparently it hasn’t officially described as such, so media is pussyfooting about it.

Police are sometimes legally bound to say “alleged” in order to not taint evidence for juries.

Other people who talk about it are not so bound, especially when it is the most obvious and clear-cut thing in the world.

Like this.
