Engineers mimic owl wings to reduce wind turbine noise

I like that the photo of the barn owl shows the alulae on the leading edge of the wings, functionally similar to slats on aircraft: I don’t know if the engineers at Handley Page, who first developed slots in wings, ever took their inspiration directly from birds.

This so interesting. I hope things like this are released into public domain so that they can be reproduced on 3d printers since the original design was from nature.
