Costuming wouldn’t last long. These suits weigh about 70 lbs, the helmet another 25. You’d be lucky to get out of your house unassisted to go trick or treating. Also items like lvl 4 IBA and these kind of specialized items are controlled and not released for public sale through DRMO, due to idiots who would use them to rob banks as seen in the Hollywood Shootout 1997.
That would be part of the incentive to get a derated unit. You don’t want to take a seam-ripper to a multiple-thousands-of-dollars piece of hardware; but if you aren’t worried about that, it’d be relatively easy to strip out much of the weight and replace it with slightly stiffened textile bulking materials, which are much lighter. Still wouldn’t be a comfort and a joy; but far easier than the real thing.
