Far Cry 7 reportedly in the works

FC6 has a lot of extra cruft that doesn’t tie into the story and you can easily ignore. Unlike previous versions where hunting and fishing were prerequisite to crafting, they made only a single introductory mission to try and coax players into it. The ability to send specialists out on missions was also not tied into story progression. Similar with the coop fetch-the-unstable-red-herring add-on missions. “Base building” was over early and had practically no effect on the game. I’m still not sure what use boats, planes, or cars are in this version, and it was easy to bypass a lot of the climbing challenges with the tiny helicopter. Oh, I just remembered that there was some potions mixing or food crafting thing, which I completely ignored.

The final mission has unending waves of opponents and encourages you to just run through to the destination as fast as you can. Not so much fun for snipers or grenadiers. (I failed a few times while adjusting from sniping to the run-and-gun style.)

All this is to say is that I hope they bring FC7 back into focus, or at least figure out how to make the cruft somehow relevant to the story rather than just a checkbox on the features list. Or maybe I’m just a weirdo who plays games to become involved in the story?

FC4 was pretty much where they hit their peak. Pagan Min was a great villian.

They lost me at the end of FC5 where nothing you did made a lick of difference and the ending was predetermined and nothing you did made a lick of difference

I’ve enjoyed the Far Cry run and am actually playing FC5: New Dawn right now (takes place 70 yrs after the bombs drop) and having a lot of fun with it.

Yeah, a lot of the Far Cry games get unnecessary hate IMO. I myself really enjoyed FC5. Also, without the series we would have never been able to experience the awesomeness of FC3: Blood Dragon. I just wish they would give it a proper remaster.

I’m not mad at the de-emphasis on the hunting missions. I was never a fan of having to hunt animals for crafting components. (I mean it made sense in Far Cry Primal of course but in general I just found it tiresome). There’s definitely little point to cars and boats and stuff, especially since you can just airdrop and glide suit to nearly anywhere with less fuss. The similarly “tropical murder simulator” themed series Just Cause innovated on a lot of these things as well and it seems like the two series are constantly stealing ideas from one another.
