Ugh you got my hopes up that this was a story about how animals deal with refraction. I just recently learned that herons are able to factor in refraction when striking down through the water’s surface at prey, but other birds may not be able to figure this out.

Science cat is fricking adorable, of course.

And speaking of refraction in the sense of optometry, I learned that some animals deal with refraction by wearing contact lenses :slight_smile:

My eye doctor’s office accepts unused/unopened contact lenses, which they then donate to the vet school, for dogs that have had eye surgery (for cataracts? I think they said). I had quite a few unopened “free trial” lenses to donate after going through an extensive search for appropriate contact lenses for myself.
