Firefly returning to TV?

This whole “leak” sounds like a prank intended to trolley Firefly fans, frankly. “They’re bringing it back - with none of the cast, and jettisoning all the elements you liked!”

That seems like the only reason they’d make it in the first place, at this point. (Which raises the question of why even have a reboot.)

There was never going to be any continuation of the original series. Ever. The movie was as good as it was going to get, and personally i found the movie to be amazing. Bitter sweet and sad, but it was well told.

It was better than the Deadwood movie

or the El Camino thing

or Star Trek The Movie

or Downton Abby

but I’ve heard the Veronica Mars movie wasn’t bad.

On screen, no, but I believe there have been several comic book series. I haven’t kept up, so I don’t know how good they are, but they’re out there.

I would rate every one of those as better than Serenity myself.

It was clear to me that Joss was still bitter about the cancelation and instead of writing a story that could have closed it up, but still left the world open for more, he decided to throw a tantrum and take his toys and go home.

Giant Freakin’ Robot is not at all a reliable source of entertainment news. Their whole schtick is sensationalist clickbait based on flimsy rumors. Three months ago they were “reporting” that Pedro Pascal had quit the Mandalorian in the middle of filming season 2, and was secretly replaced with a body double.

Not saying that this family-friendly Firefly idea is true or untrue, just that I wouldn’t rely on GFR as a primary source.

Worse than v-jer? Really?

Never understood any issue with that premise. It is still to this day the only Trek film that was actually close to the premise and concept of the original series.

I rate Serenity worse for the following

  1. Contradicts the series when it comes to Simon’s backstory
  2. The main mcguffin why River was chased is flimsy at best
  3. Joss was too lazy to actually define Book (and shrugged it off)
  4. Killed two great characters in ridiculous ways and then had the nerve to elevate a sex robot pervert to equal status in burial

It wasn’t the premise so much as the movie being a 40 minute episode of Star Trek with an additional 100 minutes of the swooshy cloud stuff from 2001.

Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker would like a word with you.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m thinking. I can’t see why they’d do this.

I’m trying to avoid giving them money whenever I can.

I have to agree that the Mandalorian is a really well done series; if Disney* goes that route it could be something decent as well, I’d wager.

(*yet another evil corp I try to avoid giving my money to)

basically everything that makes Firefly great is not Disney-friendly. and, they’d have to change any of the cast members so significantly that it wouldn’t work. even Kaylee, while a pure ray of sunshine, gets her freak on, and that’s not Disney-approved. and what about Inara? and Jayne? ugh, i hate everything about this. just leave it dead, please.

No kink shaming! The shiny need love too.

Now you’re just being coy.

BSG was an incredible outlier though, in that it was rebooted into one of the best sci fi shows of our generation. That basically never happens. And by SyFy no less. The network of bad CGI monster movies. They’ve been trying to catch that lightning in a bottle again ever since.

This Firefly reboot? I guess I’m yet another hardcore fan prepared to be disappointed by it.

So, Zombie Firefly. Just like a standard zombie, it looks a bit like the once-living creature, but its mind is gone, making it an horrific parody of what it once was.
