It sucks that we need a law to coerce decent service.
Is that USA finally following EU law? Great! Only took 20 years
No, the EU law gets you compensation even if the airline ultimately gets you where you’re going. This is just a refund.
They’re not even required to refund you in cash. Basically they can just give you store credit. meh
It’s not just airlines, the courts have been very soft on businesses for a very long time. If I paid for a service and didn’t get it, I shouldn’t have to fight an army of corporate lawyers for months or years to get a refund.
I don’t get how anyone thought it was OK for there to be a contract without considerations. If I pay someone and get nothing in return, that’s not a valid contract. I should not only immediately get my money back, but I should get access to the full force of law enforcement if they insist on stealing my money. Funny how I, as an ordinary citizen, don’t get the benefit of a police raids, SWAT team, warrants for arrest, etc. when I am wrong by a corporation.
It’s almost like the system wasn’t made for me…
All well and good, but when you’re sitting in the plane on the tarmac for hours and hours with no water, food or washrooms… essentially being held captive because of forces/incompetence outside… the laws don’t help you in that moment.
It’s not at all surprising. Regulations are the only things keeping businesses from maiming, mutilating, or straight-up murdering their customers, employees, and random passers-by.
