Florida sheriff apprehends multi-state LEGO thief

I said much the same thing a couple of months ago when talking about the 3D printer that we have at work.

Actually IIRC, we missed our bonus one year from employee theft. Walmart has a certain amount of “shrinkage” allowed per store. This isn’t just theft, but lost items, damaged goods that don’t get scanned. A pack of pens that don’t get written down as store use, etc. If you meet the goal, everyone gets a bonus (even the part time workers). I think one year I got a 6 disc Panasonic CD changer with mine (still have it.) We missed one year I was there because a lady in jewelry was stealing shit.

I am going to go with morals. And they aren’t any different, people have been stealing shit since before we were people.

Its an expensive TOY, hardly diapers and formula or steaks or even booze that one needs to live.

It’s an expensive easily resellable toy. If you urgently need diapers, it’s going to be a lot easier to steal $300 worth of lego, sell it for $100, and then buy diapers than it is to try to smuggle $100 worth of diapers out of a store.

I won’t pretend to know the motivations of this thief, but stealing a toy doesn’t necesarily rule out desperation

Yeah… there are A LOT more items you can steal that are worth a lot more and easier to sell. If he is only stealing Star Wars legos, it is probably because that is what he collects. He might sell some too, but Occam’s razor, this guy isn’t a thief because he has no alternatives.

maybe? I’ve got no relevant experience and don’t have a really solid idea of what would offer the best return in terms of being easy to steal & easy to sell
