I was trying to figure out how to make an response to that, and you did far better than I would have.
Same here.
If Doctor Doom makes a public statement that he’d rather let the Fantastic Four stop Galactus than watch the world be consumed, it doesn’t follow that Reed Richards has sold out to Latveria.
She’s already promising to build a partly-Latverian advisory committee.
That kind of defeatism is neither helpful nor accurate. LBJ wouldn’t have signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 if there hadn’t been a huge grassroots pressure campaign from progressives pushing him to the left. Even Barack Obama initially said he didn’t support same-sex marriage.
Can we not with the Oswald stuff?
Hasn’t Biden been consistently more progressive than anyone expected, too, in no small part because of pressure from the Democratic voters and legislators?
Anyway, if you (general you, in this case) are an American voter, there is no good reason to not vote for Harris. Any issue you might have with her, it’s guaranteed that Trump and the GOP are overtly and significantly worse.
I would even go so far as to call if a moral obligation to vote for Harris. Just like calling an ambulance if you happen upon a car crash involving injuries. Surely someone else will come along and help just doesn’t cut it.
The history of civil rights movements in the United States is basically a series of politicians being pushed to the left—if not dragged there, kicking and screaming.
Even when he was arguing for abolishing slavery Lincoln was initially skeptical that an integrated multiracial society was possible. Just a couple of generations ago you’d be hard-pressed to find any mainstream politicians who would go to bat for interracial marriage or decriminalizing homosexuality. Now they’re so mainstream even the right-wingers pretend to support them.
This isn’t theoretical, though–even leaving aside the fact that she has consistently advocated and implemented progressive policy since she became a Senator, Harris is fighting a far-right fascist who has promised to dismantle our liberal institutions and remake the country. She’s doing the thing right now!
If Cheney wants to hop aboard the opposition train, then welcome the fuck aboard Dick.
If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons.
Again… so? If David Fucking Duke is endorsing you, maybe it’s time to question your political positions…
No, the hard right is turning against him because of his explicitly endorsement of Israel and his positions on expansionist Zionism.
Yes he has. He has led the most progressive Presidential administration since LBJ. That’s a low bar, sadly, but it doesn’t change the fact that he absolutely has pushed the needle to the left. This is why when talk in the party started cranking up about him needing to step aside, his strongest supporters pushing back against that weren’t centrists like Pelosi and Hakeem Jeffries. It was the progressives, led most strongly by AOC.
I have my concerns about Harris, believe me. Still…I’m a trans woman. Trump, Vance, and Project 2025 will not go well for me. At all. And I do believe Harris can be influenced by progressives to keep nudging things to the left. Am I happy about her promise to put a Republican on her cabinet? No, I’m not. Our Democracy will survive having a Republican in a Democratic President’s cabinet. Our Democracy won’t survive four more years of Trump. This is not a difficult choice.
Boasting of Dick Cheney’s endorsement and campaigning with Liz Cheney was extremely disheartening, but it doesn’t mean she will not oppose the right in office. She will have no choice, because if she wins they will be in Jan 6 mode every day, dusk til dawn, until they are rid of her.
“Netanyahu completely extirpated Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, but at least I didn’t vote for the only person on Earth who might conceivably have stopped him!”
A Hobson’s choice is an awful thing. Get over it
Anyway, David Duke! What an asshole.
Harris has been pretty consistently on the correct side of history on trans issues. Criminal justice issues, there is a discussion to be had. But on trans, she’s got it right. She avoided surrendering the ground on Faux last night, and I have faith.
Who are you going to vote for if you are against genocide?
You vote for democracy and the rule of law. If you think the orange twatwaffle will do anything to stop any genocide you have been mislead.
As @BakerB noted, how would electing Trump, which is what a vote for Putin’s buddy Stein would be, stop the genocide. Trump will gleefully support the expansion of the war, and the full liquidation of Gaza… He DOESN’T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PALESTINIANS EXIST… We have a far better chance of putting pressure on a Harris administration and she’s far more likely to listen than a full on fasicst administration. By all means, SPEAK OUT against what Israel is doing. We all need to do that… but don’t act like voting for a third party will fix anything.
Harris has not taken a stand against one genocide. Trump has fully endorsed it, and another in Ukraine, and has made starting a few more in America the central point of his campaign. For people who hate genocide this is then a sad but extremely easy choice – to do anything the first step needs to be to stop him.
I’m going to vote for Harris.
