No. A “mob” is a violent gathering of people. Members of the public drawing their own judgements from afar based on available evidence do not constitute a mob.
The problem with that is that is assumes that girls did not face the same thing. Many of us did.
Intersectionality, yet again.
Yep. I feel for people who were bullied because they were geeky and weird, primarily, because I was bullied for being geeky and weird. But yet somehow, I always get told that it couldn’t have been so bad for me, being as I was a girl/am a woman. Well, let me say, yes it was. I will not be gaslit and told that being a girl/woman was some kind of god damn advantage, because it most certainly was not.
It’s like men just can’t grasp that their boyish comiserating about having a “female” who does whatever the fuck it is you expect from them in your goddamn fantasies contributed to the isolation and abandonment of those of us who just wished that we could have a friend, a place to go, some people who hang out with us like… humans. It’s dehumanizing. Being treated like a non-human is worse than not having an intimate partner.
Right? And they can’t imagine that we suffered same as them, either. It’s frustrating.
I feel like it went like this:
HS Boys: I want a human being to cater to my every sexual, emotional, and social need.
Me: I wish I had a fucking friend I could even talk with in this place since I’m literally forced to be here all day every day. Oh well… guess I’ll read another thing.
BOOKS!!! My ONLY TRUE friend!!! runs to library and piles stack of books on top of self for comfort
But what really gets me is that you tell them that, and they say “well, that can’t be true for you!” They will categorically deny your pain, because it doesn’t fit into their world view that hinges on them being the center of the universe, and women just being tangential to their worldview. And that continues well after HS, as well.
Remember: any woman can get any man to provide sexual favors whenever she wants. So it is unpossible (sic) for a woman to be denied intimacy. There must be something really wrong with her.
Are you even posting this in the right thread?
The attacks on the victim, Zoe Quinn, by the Gamergate crowd inter alia that have made her fearful, despite the protestations of the abuser that she should bear no responsibility.
A “mob” is a group of members of the public threatening an individual (in this case) with violence and hatred. If they do so from afar or from across the street makes no difference if the result is that their victim (who is already a victim) is made fearful.
Is this not a thread about the asymmetry of men’s fragility versus the fundamental rights of women?
I’d argue that sexual favors are not the same thing as intimacy
I’m fairly certain that @anon67050589 is aware of that, and is lampooning people who believe that they are the same thing…
My mistake
To be fair, she did not include a /s at the end, so confusion can happen.
Also, I probably shouldn’t speak for @anon67050589, as she’s perfectly capable of doing so herself, but that’s just what I got out of her comment. I can also see how it can be mistaken for meaning something else…
You are of course completely right.
I relied on being a known poster here and did not include the /s tag, which as @anon61221983 pointed out, would have made things clear.
There’s a scene in the ever-amazing Harlots where a man says “Women will always be at the mercy of men’s power.” and the harlot he’s talking to replies “It’s not your power we’re at the mercy of, it’s your weakness.”
And guess who picked on me the most? The other dorky, geeky, socially awkward males. Because girls don’t play D&D, or like Star Wars, and if you do then you’re a freak and we don’t want you in our group either.
