Keillor is being vilified on this forum in absence of proof of guilt. Since he’s a public figure, this will have real world consequences for him. Trial by press would be the case if it were, say, the editors of a news outlet disparaging him. Mob rule is a better analogy for what happens on the internet in situations like this.
I was thinking about that episode. “stupid TV, be more funny!”
But seriously, that representation is pretty much spot on as to what PHC is like.
It seemed to appeal to a certain segment of baby boomers - men with old LL Bean clothes and ladies with quilted vests. They’re the people that drive Prius’ 60 mph in the left lane now. The kind that right wing assholes always point to as smug lefties. I always remind them - “no, us liberals hate them, too.”
Keillor, not MPR, owns the “Prairie Home Companion” brand. To break off all ties and stop paying him royalties, they have to stop using the brand. Here’s the list of trademarks.
Yes, and misogyny has real world consequences for women on a daily basis, but I guess since Keillor is a man, consequences for him is tragic, while it’s unimportant for half the American population.
You know what? That’d be great if we could make this happen. However, the society we currently inhabit is rife with misogyny. Dismissing the lived experiences of women only reinforces the status quo. You’ve also ignored the comments of men on this thread who have met Keillor and witnessed inappropriate behavior. Why?
There are about four comments from men on this forum along the lines of “I thought he was creepy”, which is cheap criticism. I am waiting until allegations are shown to be true or others come forward before I condemn Keillor.
And yet it’s there, and it contributes to people not believing women, ignoring problems like this for decades, and then demanding a quorum of women to prove that this happened at all. As if we’re not as reliable or believable as men. That is misogyny.
How? If they met him and thought he was indeed creepy in some fashion (and in at least one case, this came from someone who not only met him, but WORKED with him at MPR), how is that “cheap criticism.” Is Keillor being a public radio celebrity somehow give him more credibility?
Give it up man. Sheesh. What kind of response even is that? It’s nonsense, that’s what. You are being actively hostile to the woman you’re talking to, questioning their intelligence like that.
I’m asking a question. I can’t imagine Mindysan33 knows much about Keillor other than the allegation against him and that he was fired.
I just can’t picture Keillor as a predator, and I don’t think most people who listened to him, read his stuff or met him would think that either. And he did PHC over 40 years and out of that he gets fired over one single incident which he said was an accident that he immediately apologized for and which is still under investigation by MPR, with no one else yet having come forward since the incident happened, in October.
I also just can’t get over all the rage / celebration / name calling on this forum. It’s all so misplaced.
Which didn’t have a thing to do with the points @anon61221983 raised. Instead of addressing them head on, you made the conversation about what they do or don’t know which. At best, that’s completely disingenious. And I’m gonna stop now before I earn a timeout.
I don’t see any name calling just some citing of sources that say he was a creeper. I don’t see any celebration of it or rage other than the rage of if true why the fuck have we let it go on so long.
You liked his show… we get that. I used to like his show but I also think it jumped the shark over 20 years ago now. Hell I like Bill Cosby’s humor but we know how that turned out and HOW FUCKING LONG HIS SHIT WENT ON.
As stated before with the salted earth policy taken by MPR we are thinking what the hell would bring on that kind of reaction?
