My pessimism says as far as they can go.
I don’t think genocide prevention organisations ever expected to be watching the US and UK, but here we are.

My question is, how far can that actually be before the federal government steps in? It already seems like a lot of what they’re doing is blatantly unconstitutional. At what point is it legal to treat Florida as the hostile foreign power it’s desperately trying to make itself into, and what happens then?
I suspect that the usual defenders of actual freedom (ACLU, NAACP, etc) are already challenging these laws, and most, if not all of them, WILL be struck down by the courts. That’s generally not what gets press though. I’m guessing if you check out any of the local NPR stations in FL, they have coverage of resistance to these laws.
I was thinking the same thing: there’s a progression here. And there’s got to be a breaking point when, well—i don’t like posting the bugs bunny gif—you know there are kind & understanding people stuck there. But it’s basically a race to the bottom and the elected (sort of) government is leading the pack.
thank you. it has become tiresome.
and those of us determined to fight it out.
that said, i appreciate and approve your choice of meme!
well played!
ETA: of course, i don’t live on the mainland.
saw away, Bugs.
saw away.
Let’s not saw anything. Better to take it back:
Democrats across the board give Donna Deegan credit for the victory, but Democrats at the national level helped boost her campaign and signaled that Florida is on their 2024 radar.
yes! The outgoing party won’t go out not thrashing like frantic animal, and it will be like a fever breaking when the tide turns.
allow Floridians to carry concealed weapons without a permit
Combined with “stand your ground” laws, my understanding is that it’s basically just straight up legal in Florida to gun someone down, as long as you say afterwards that you “feared for your life”. Which of course means it’s basically a way to allow racist lynchings without explicitly saying so, but the number of people who can legit claim that the GOP makes them fear for their lives should give them pause, you’d think.
