Generic YA dystopian novel (Twitter edition)

Well, it depends on what you mean by “high fantasy”. If you mean Tolkien and his immediate imitators, then no, the city would have a name, plus references to its original Elvish or Dwarvish name in the First Age before the Time of Men. But there’s lots of books that basically have a fantasy version of New York or London and just call it “the City”

Yeah, I’d pretty much understood “high fantasy” to mean the Tolkien-like stuff. Labelling genres is always fraught with peril, though.

Have you read the “Kaleidoscope Century” by John Barnes the rest of his Meme Wars stories… very, very bleak…
