Gentleman tries to drive across flooded street, ends up floating away instead (video)

The procedure here in Oz is a) check for crocodiles, snakes, etc, then b) take off your shoes and socks, roll up your pantlegs, and c) carefully wade into the water and check the current, depth, etc. If you wouldn’t walk it, or can’t walk it while keeping your pants dry, don’t do it.

That’s only for roads that go through a body of water without a bridge and aren’t in flood.

As the ads say, ‘If it’s flooded, forget it’.

People underestimate the force of water. Think of it like this:
F=MA, and when you are in flowing water the mass is the entire column of water reaching back to the river’s source, not just the water touching your vehicle (or leg, if you’re wading a river).
OK, that’s severely oversimplified, but you get the idea.

Why wouldn’t you look at that, go ‘nope, don’t need to go that way that much after all’, if you were in anything less capable than, I dunno, an Alvis Stalwart, maybe?
