not like moving pyramid items…
This is probably more fitting on the useless trivia thread, but the “mobile” in “mobile home” refers to the origins of the first mass produced popular homes of the type at a factory* just outside Mobile, Alabama. It does not refer to their “mobility.”
The generic term is “manufactured housing.”
Mobile home is like the Kleenex for tissues thing, or scotch tape for whatever the generic term for that stuff is.
*more useless trivia - the factory was owned by a couple, the Sweets. Sweet Homes. There’s some thinking that “Sweet Home, Alabama,” references that. The factory got started to help address the housing crisis for vets returning from WWII.
I believe a wise person once said “You can’t fix stupid.”
Apparently a tape measure was too complex for them or was some devil-inspired liberal scheme to interfere with their rights to judge it by eye.
I wonder if beer was involved.
Thank you for the extremely interesting nugget’o’information!
(good thing I didn’t have much to do this evening… )
A tape measure is not quite enough to get the job done. It needs to be a measuring stick, to judge the height of things 15 feet up in the air.
I work on the ALMA prototype 12 meter radio telescope that was moved from the VLA site in central New Mexico to Kitt Peak in western Arizona in 2013. I happened across a book of photos in the control room, which showed the hundreds of photos and calculations that the folks took ensure that it would complete its journey from without incident.
They got paid a million and a half, and seem to have earned it. Moving big things is not a job for amateurs.
I was using “tape measure” in a humorous way. NOT meaning it to define how to move a house safely.
