George Zimmerman is selling his fine art paintings on eBay, and we had a question for the artist

I wonder if Monsanto could sue me for painting a still life of some Roundup Ready produce.

Interesting choice of color.

That’s a real nice source you’ve got there.

“Killing of one human being by another. Homicide is a general term; it includes murder, manslaughter, and other criminal homicides as well as noncriminal killings. Murder is the crime of intentionally and unjustifiably killing another. In the U.S., first-degree murder is a homicide committed with premeditation or in the course of a serious felony (e.g., kidnapping). Second- and third-degree murder involve lesser degrees of intent. Manslaughter is commonly divided into voluntary (or first-degree) and involuntary (or second- and third-degree) manslaughter. The first type encompasses any homicide resulting from an intentional act done without malice or premeditation and while in the heat of passion or on sudden provocation; the second type is variously defined in different jurisdictions but often includes an element of unlawful recklessness or negligence. Noncriminal homicides include killings committed in defense of oneself or another and deaths resulting from accidents caused by persons engaged in lawful acts. See also felony and misdemeanour; self-defense.”

Zimmerman is following Martin, yet somehow Martin is the one who sneakily gets close to Zimmerman and attacks him first.

Did Martin have double-jointed shoulders, to be able to reach his arms around behind himself?

The left has traditionally upheld the rights of those victims of society - the powerless, the vulnerable, the marginalised, the persecuted. The right has traditionally been made up of the comfortably well off members of society who resent any potential threat to their privilege. “Bleeding heart” is their special term for mocking compassion for the powerless, the vulnerable, the marginalised, the persecuted.

Wait…did you just state that drug use, school problems, and “thuggish posturing” are all reasons to deserve to die?

Is there some particular reason you can’t use a photo of a flag as a model? Does shutterstock own that particular flag wave? If we’re going to be picking all these nits, I have some leftover diatomaceous earth that might work faster.

Did he run out into the world looking for trouble and find it? Yup. Does any of this bring Trayvon Martin back from the dead? Nope. Is our collective search for vengeance a big reason why we have things like mandatory minimums and a shitty criminal justice system? Yup.

There never will be justice for Trayvon Martin. No matter what we do. I think we’ve sufficiently deterred people from running out of their house in the middle of a 911 call to play Cops & Robbers. Everything else is just more of what makes the world a shitty place to live in sometimes. You don’t have to forgive or forget, that’s not a prerequisite for mercy. Mercy isn’t what you hand out to people who deserve it either, that’s justice. Mercy is what you grant to end the chain of human cruelty.

Au contraire. To a significant portion of the U.S. population, Zimmerman is a hero. Even he himself doesn’t seem to have been shamed into becoming a better person.

Are you really saying we should just leave poor Georgie Zimmerman alone, and on top of that, show him some mercy?

A hero that demonstrated that you can’t do what he did and really get away with it. And leaving him alone is mercy. I don’t care if he comes out and puts dirt in his mouth and proclaims his perpetual regret. I can’t ever know if he’s being sincere. Maybe he does regret it and has chosen not to express it, lest people just think he’s hamming it up. Maybe he doesn’t regret it at all. But, frankly I’m not as concerned about him as I am about what the left is doing to itself. I simply don’t believe that vengeance has any value. Revenge is often worse than the crime that motivated it. It’s the desire to hurt another to achieve emotional satisfaction. It’s sick and I’ll have no part of it.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to characterize saying mean things about someone on the internet as “revenge” for either shooting someone or smacking their head against a curb.

Shooting or assaulting Zimmerman or even vandalizing his house might qualify as “revenge” in this case but voicing opinions about the incident doesn’t. (Yes, even if they’re not exactly flattering to poor Georgie boy.)

Not sure what your point is. I find it illuminates a facet of his character that he would create such a close reproduction and then insinuate it is the result of his unique creativity.

From the e-bay page and his answers to questions:
I found a creative, way to express myself, my emotions and the symbols that represent my experiences.

I know its not the fanciest, but it is what we had and I needed to put these visions onto the blank canvas as soon as possible.

"if Trayvon was white, you would’ve never heard of this case. "

Hmmmm. . . if Zimmerman was black we wouldn’t have heard about the killing either, and he probably would have gone to jail too.

What? He did get away with it. Are you saying he didn’t because so many people are saying still saying mean things about him on the Internet? If so, I don’t think his feelings are hurt by that. Not one bit.[quote=“ActionAbe, post:136, topic:16927”]

“Hurting” Zimmerman is not the point. Keeping in mind the fundamental injustice of what he did, and how he actually did get away with it, and may well even get rich from it, is the point. Those are the “sick” problems that “the left” concerns itself with. Another: more young black men are likely to die as a result of what Zimmerman got away with.

To the folks to defend Zimmerman and condemn Trayvon:

I wish this hadn’t become such a political incident, but that probably happened because of so much publicity. Try looking at this through both the eyes of Zimmerman and then Trayvon, and don’t automatically assume Trayvon is some “gang-banging thug”, especially since there’s no evidence that he was anything other than a typical kid; everything conservatives cite as evidence of his supposed malevolence is common to middle class white kids too.

I don’t assume Zimmerman is racist, or evil, just that he was being too vigilant, and maybe letting his ego get the best of him, it’s a very human thing to do and a lot of us could fail there. In martial arts they teach you to avoid confrontation, and the police told him to not confront Trayvon. Logically he should have gotten manslaughter, but the jury (by their own admission) thought the stand your ground law gave him an “out.”

Nah. He was a Gaul. The Franks were hanging out in Germany.

Isn’t that what Tyrion keeps asking in the later books?

Second amendment is best amendment.

Even if you are a fan of patriotic art, this isn’t very good (borrowed image, monochromatic palette) so clearly people are bidding on it as some kind of collectible.

Reminds me of a certain work by artist Piero Manzoni called “Merda d’Artista”, so I applaud Zimmerman for what appears to actually be an ironic critique of the art world and conservative politics.

110K? for real?
