A Washington Post article describes a former Twitter account that followed Florida Man, “The world’s worst superhero”.
There are obvious cultural reasons, like the image it cultivates as a place to go for fun, and its volatile mix of sunbirds and immigrants, why Florida would generate a lot of “news of the weird” stories. But I learned only relatively recently that Florida’s public-records laws, which make public many records generated in the criminal prosecution process, are among the strongest in the world. So even if Floridians were no more likely than average to do crazy shit (which I do not claim is the case), they’d hit the news a lot more often.
