This is the stuff that we only dreamt about in band while we slogged through another Leroy Anderson or Sousa piece. Super Cool.
I’m going to say the thing that would have gotten me beat up in shop class, I wish Metallica turned out cooler.

Yes, actually… marching bands who play in public pay royalties…

from what I can tell, for this contest, at least, bands could freely access a catalog of 13 of their songs. now, I don’t know if they can play them in the future without paying, but at least for the contest I believe they were free.
