Can confirm. This is a very good scratching post and very stable. The optional platform you can put on the top, on the other hand, is not so good. It’s a piece of particleboard held in place with screws and can break pretty easily if you have a large cat repeatedly jumping on it (or a clumsy person leaning on it).
I made a post/tree thing for our cats out of old lumber and some carpet a few years ago. They use it all the time for scratching and perching. Unfortunately, it does little to prevent one of the cats from also chewing on the wooden armrests of our mid-century sofa (!!!), the little fucker.
Did the price go up on this or is my idea of a good deal that different? Currently the price on that thing is $49.99.
