Spring is here.
In the woods behind the house, the buds are on the trees.
Soon—
so soon—
I will not be able to see my neighbors.

That has a bittersweet quality to it, this year. Maybe you do want to see your neighbors, any signs of human life, right now.

We too gauge the seasons by watching a nearby house disappear and reappear every year as the foliage ebbs and flows.

I’ve been living here just short of a year and I haven’t even met any of my neighbors yet. That’s on me, mostly; I didn’t introduce myself when we moved in and after a few months it seemed impossible to start knocking on doors. When we got sick a couple weeks ago, not knowing the neighbors suddenly seemed like a much bigger liability.

That said, as in physics where every action has an equal and opposite reaction, I am sure the neighbors are equally excited that they will not be able to see me.

LAWRENCE, Kan. —The Kansas Supreme Court on Saturday struck down a Republican-led effort to allow the continuation of in-person church services across the state despite the governor’s ban on such gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus — what has been called the “War over Easter” here — as the virus-related death toll continued to rise.

Great song, though.

So a big reason WI Republicans pushed so murderously for elections there was to get a conservative on the state supreme court. Turns out, a Democrat won the seat, which bodes well for the presidential election.
