My wiki project is such a time-sink hobby that I frequently wonder why I bother … but every now and then, when I do a search that hits a shallow spot in the ocean of Google, it’s right there on the first page.

Pretty good for a Raspberry Pi with a free DDNS domain!

It’s similar to the alt-right tactic of choosing some term with shallow results, popularizing it, and gaining capture on the term with their sites at the top, but my site projects to many thousands of shallow spots like this. (I could probably improve the ranking quite a bit, but every time I put a lot of effort into tuning the microformat markup on articles, Google changes their mind about what they want.)

You know…hey, just protecting the bottom line. Still, it’s better than being open, so I’ll take it.

Christopher Cantwell and others engaged in a conspiracy in advance of the deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017, a jury has ruled.

The jury did not reach a verdict on two federal conspiracy charges, but did find that every defendant was liable for civil conspiracy under Virginia law.

The jury then awarded $500,000 in punitive damages against all 12 individual defendants, and $1 million against five white nationalist organizations on that conspiracy count. Other damages followed on further counts.

(Not sure if the WaPo article covered that, paywalled.)
