How does one “serve” in a militia? Who are they serving?
Absent the other context, no. It would usually be a call to background violence preparation. In normal circumstances it would be a call to develop strategic understanding of your area for when the violence comes. It is the full context of the tweet that gives a more direct call. The rPOTUS and talk of the arrest is highlighting the grievance worthy of violence (in the eyes of the target audience), the 1:50k stuff is a combination address and in group signifier. It addresses the message to a group with a history of violence in furtherance of right wing politics. The hold provides plausible deniability and says to wait, but the buckle up says that the wait shouldn’t be terribly long.
Messages like this have been a staple of far right politics going at least back to the 70s and the conscious adoption of leaderless resistance as a tactic. When someone inevitably acts on these calls it will be treated as an unforeseeable act of a lone wolf.
The one and only time I remember that militiamen were used by a State in the United States (militiamen “serve” the State government) was in 1794 during the Whiskey Rebellion. The United States Army had to be called out to protect the tax collector they were after. The militiamen were on the wrong side of history so to speak.
Fascists.
Biggs was one of the 10 asshats that went to the White House to pressure Pence to overturn the election. He was also one of the 6 that asked Trumpy for a pardon as shown in the 1/6 hearings.
Umm, i think you need to divorce the historic meaning of militia from that of modern day militias in your mind. If you already know the difference, drop the pretense.
I was asked
The modern day so called militias such as Posse Comitatus, Oath Keepers, 3 percenters, and on and on are figments of RWNJs imagination. They are private paramilitary organizations. They have no authority from any State in the United States. They are violent, xenophobic, racist and anti-democratic organizations.
Did the United States once have legitimate militias. Yes we did. You cannot deny history.
Are any of the so called militia organizations in the United States now legitimate. No they are not.
Back to congressman Clay Higgins message:
Turns out there is a good reference to todays illegimate militia movements lingo and motives. It is a book called “The Undertow: Scenes from a Slow Civil War” by Jeff Sharlet. I will probably pick up a copy. I like to know my enemies.
I was thinking the answer was “themselves” but to be fair the Bundy Fash Klan do seem to have a lot of people willing to take up arms for them to be allowed steal off the commons for themselves.
