I can’t help but question the entire schtick— are the four characters all paid actors just playing a part?
I would be more surprised if they weren’t!

My guess is a hybrid: the Svengali went out and found four sassy old people who were retired and bored. So he scripts most of it, riffing on their real personalities, and they perform for giggles and a small payment.
