So sad.

If the gunman was a white man, watch that description be revised in 3, 2, 1…

But then, the Guardian writes,

When asked if the suspect had any affiliation with Islamic State, the FBI assistant agent in charge, Ron Hopper, said: “We do have suspicions that the individual may have leanings toward that ideology.” Though when pushed as to what led him to believe that, he clarified that all possibilities were being investigated.

I wonder how long after such attacks such groups claim responsibility.

Well that is horrible. Hopefully they can heal everyone in the hospital.

Access to automatic firearms seems to facilitate more carnage. Also, isn’t the Good Guy with a Gun supposed to stop this sort of thing.

Good guys with guns know they aren’t allowed to carry them into a bar.

The NRA apparently believes it’s worth waiting for that 1 in 100 incidents in order to justify their argument; the body count and permanent injuries from the other 99 is just chaff.

Reporting 50 dead, not 20.

Horrible, just horrible.

It wasn’t Arab terrorism. It was Republican, Trump-touting, conservative christian terrorism.

We’ll have to wait for an investigation.

Yeah, but the report mentions the police officer guarding the bar.

C’mon, no one will address the elephant in the room? It was a GAY nightclub. I doubt the asshole had terrorist leanings, this is pretty probably your garden-variety hate crime gotta-kill-all-the-fags because the world is ending kind of crazy. It’s just FBI has a preferred bogeyman nowadays. Must keep the American citizens on their toes for those pesky Muslim terrorists, you know? That the terrorist is just an homophobic American is unconceivable.

While police have not officially identified the gunman, law enforcement officials and relatives on Sunday identified him as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old from Fort Pierce, Fla.

Police have not identified a possible motive, and details about Mateen’s background were scarce on Sunday morning. His family is from Afghanistan, while Mateen is believed to have been born in the United States.

And from the Guardian:

The New York Republican congressman Peter King, a member of the House homeland security committee and chairman of the sub-committee on counterterrorism and intelligence, has told CNN his sources have told him Omar Mateen, the suspect in the Orlando shooting who has been named by media outlets using anonymous sources, was “from Afghanistan and we believe he is trained in the use of weapons”.

If that was the case, the extreme right wing would deny it and blame it on the left and media

The gunman’s name was Omar…that sounds pretty muslim-y. What other evidence do we need?

It wasn’t automatic. Automatic firearms have been heavily regulated and restricted since 1934. Sadly, even Bernie Sanders, who, you know, should know our nation’s laws being a Senator and all and running for president, said the same thing.

RE the shooter:

According to the LA Times it was Omar Mateen who was a US Citizen and I believe born in the US. Get this, he had a job in security.

His parents don’t seem to think it was religiously motivated. So if he was radicalized they were not aware (or so they say.) Could have had other motivations. Guess we will find out eventually.

I’m going to say that it can be both an anti gay hate crime and anti gay terrorism. Regardless of the religious community - if any - the perpetrator comes from.
