Happy birthday to “The only band that matters”.
Maybe I’m biased because I prefer the US version (which is the only one I knew for years), but at the same time the US version had some better songs-- “White Man in Hammersmith Palais”, “Clash City Rockers”, “I Fought The Law” and “Complete Control” versus “Deny”, “Cheat”, “48 Hours” and “Protex Blue” on the UK version.
Holy shit!
Saw The Who, The Clash, and Eddie Money in 1982 at the Pontiac Silverdome with 85,000 close personal friends.
Eddie Money was well received, The Clash was booed relentlessly.
You can still find stories about it on the Google.
The entire show was a cluster you know what mostly due to the show starting late. General admission with 11,000 people on main floor being watered down with firehoses didn’t help.
I was also just invited to my 40th class reunion and now this story, crap am I getting old.
Kidding…I’m also partial to the US version—probably because that’s the one I own.
A Who concert with general admission, huh?
What could go wrong?
