From a lot of parents I’ve seen I wish they had stuck with pets. It’s a lot easier for pets to run away from bad home than it is for kids.

There are over 400,000 Catholic priests and probably even more nuns worldwide, and literally nobody has more power than Francis to change the rules and encourage them to have offspring if it’s so important to him. And it’s not even like celibacy was always a requirement in the past! For about the first thousand years priests could marry. And even now there are about 120 married priests in the US who started out as episcopal and then converted. Didn’t seem to trigger any angry lightning bolts.

What about people who can’t afford children? I like the tweet asking whether he’ll pay for her hypothetical child’s college. Will he pay the hospital bill when the child is born? That’s over $100k here in uncivilized Yankistan. Will he pay to feed and clothe the child? Will he be the one buying school clothes, supplies, and books? Will he pay for private school, if that’s desired? I hate the anti-abortion assholes who don’t believe in helping support impoverished families; the ‘too stupid to see the hypocrisy,’ and ‘the cruelty is the point’ crowd. To hell with them.
What about people who never find anyone worth reproducing with?
What about people with genetic stuff they wouldn’t want to pass on to children? My BF told me long ago he didn’t want to potentially subject a child to several genetic things that make him miserable.

Pets can’t be “programmed,” you weird old man. They aren’t machines that do whatever you require at the press of a button, as anyone who’s ever ridden horseback or housebroken a puppy can readily attest. They have their own minds and emotions and instincts, and they don’t always synch with ours.
