The other similarity between them and TFG is their breezy dismissal of any Russia connection. Wearing authentic KGB uniforms for fun. As is normal for fun people living under assumed identity, but people say there is all this Russia, Russia, Russia hoax Чепуха. I mean nonsense.

This method of obtaining a false identity was described in The Day of the Jackal.
It was used by undercover police officers in the UK who infiltrated left-wing, environmental and anti-nuclear groups. Some officers had sexual relationships with activists while undercover.

This idea has been a staple of thrillers for decades now. Most newer ones also mention that it doesn’t really work well anymore.

It worked in the UK until 2007, probably because undercover police relied on it.
