Uh-oh.
Since I first read about the prospect of melting permafrost, I’ve written that I’ve been expecting this.
Our immune systems are all going to be put to the test in the coming years, as viruses dormant for over 10,000 years thaw and re-enter our environment.
Hopefully scientists will be able to identify these new/ancient strains and determine which have potential to be human pathogens, and maybe give us a bit of a head start with vaccine development.
