High school calls teen's innocent rainbow Big Gay Ice Cream t-shirt 'inappropriate'

You don’t understand the passage. If you think this verse requires you to kill your own father, mother etc you are completely wrong. Jesus is speaking about the divisions that will come. If you follow Jesus, and your family does not, it will cause a division. But its the family members who will turn against the Christian as they will hate what he has become. So the Christian gets persecuted for his faith by his own family, as they become hate filled.

Explain, Jesus a racist?!??!

I am a reasonable person, and I find onesies for baby girls with statements such as “I Hate My Thighs” to be obscene. But then, like most reasonable people, I don’t spend all my time obsessing about sex. Is sex the only thing you find obscene? And that’s why it can’t ever be hinted at on a t-shirt? Because as far as I’m concerned, an 8-year-old girl is more aware of what it means to see “I hate my thighs” on a shirt, and will be more harmed by it, than if she sees a rainbow ice cream cone and/or the word “gay” on a shirt. Why is it OK to be obscene to a 8-year-old girl, but not to an old man who (supposedly) doesn’t have any direct knowledge about sex anyway?

Matthew 15:22

Jesus spends some time making it clear that Canaanites are second-class citizens and not even worthy to be dogs. Then when the Canaanite woman pretty much agrees and says “Yes, truly I am garbage for both my gender and my race”, only then does Jesus offer her a little help.

That’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, right there.

Enjoy your racist allegory.

How can it not be relevant to me? Does the kid not know about other peoples opinions? If I wore a football top, say Manchester United, that should state I support them, here I am, this is who I am. Would I then be so dim as to not know there are other football clubs in existence, and that me liking Man Utd would cause offense to them? Peoples clothing makes a statement.

Does he not project those feelings by wearing a tshirt stating Big Gay Ice Cream. What are we to assume, that he has feeling for homophobic people? or Homosexual people? My guess is he supports gay ice treats and he likes them best, and has probably chosen that company over another, as he is gay or supports gay causes, so it turn, to somebody that does not support gay causes, that would be offensive. Why can’t you grasp this? See football example above if you are still confused.

Why should equal rights for everyone be offensive?

Why can’t you grasp this?

There’s no need to be a jerk.

It’s the beauty of free speech. If you have something to say, you can say it, and the government can’t lock you up or kill you, as long as what you’re saying isn’t fraudulent, or a direct incitement to violence.

The fact that you feel offended by people asking to be treated as full citizens is fine by me. What is unacceptable is the government censoring the aforementioned speech, which is exactly what the school is doing.

If wearing a Big Gay Ice Cream tshirt is enough to make you commit acts of violence, then there’s something wrong with you, not the person practicing their right to speech.

You’re also equivocating on the word projection here. I meant it one way (Psychological Projection), while you meant it as in projecting a message into the world as speech.

Equivocation makes your arguments easy to spout, like many religious apologists before you, you’ve taken a word with several meanings and have picked and chosen which ones you prefer, rather than the contextually obvious meaning.

Heh - nicely done  Though if you’re not going to add a smiley, you might want to at least add a “think of the children!” so people can spot the irony

The level of discourse emanating from Falcor’s lunch makes me think it might be Gaters having jolly high jinks. There’s a sense of fourteen year old FPS player insult to the last reply to me (now eaten) that just didn’t jibe with po-faced christian gay-hater. Of course there could be overlap. The Venn diagram of Internet Crazypants probably needs a fucking Z-axis these days…

This is a fact that uneducated people have, and still do, use to justify their belief that their religious beliefs should be given priority in government matters. If you’re going to claim otherwise you should read Jefferson’s full letter to the Danbury Baptists.

Or, if you can’t be bothered, perhaps you can explain why the government should favor one group’s religious beliefs over another’s in a multi-cultural society. Perhaps to that end you could get God to take the witness stand for once.

Whilst you and your friends are worriedly assessing which side of the room to stand in, there’s a whole world out there that occasionally glances in, rolls their eyes and then gets on with their day in the nice, bright sunshine outside.

Oh ffs, talking to a ghost.
