It’s true that we’re living in an orwell/pkd reality right now with a pinch of huxley thrown in for good measure but if someone had told me that They Live would be more prescient than you could imagine i’d have told them they were taking the crazy pills - “you’re taking crazy pills” - to their face! But there it is. Is it too late to hitch a ride on voyager? I hear it’s got some bangin’ tunes.

Don’t I wish! Brave New World had post-scarcity, an excellent legal over-the-counter drug, rampant hedonism, servants and laborers who enjoyed their status rather than stewing in resentment, and if you were somehow discontented with all that you got to go to the islands populated by other interesting misfits to live as you wish. We don’t have any of that.
I never really understood why it was considered dystopian.
Or were you referring to Grey Eminence? That might be more relevant to our current situation.

Oh deary me… I’ve seen this justification for slavery trotted out by right wing pundits repeatedly and it doesn’t wash with me, sorry. To be clear, I’m not saying you’re justifying it but putting people in predestined roles due to their genetic makeup is a dangerous road to go down.
My point was that we’re living in a post-truth politics era where the masses don’t seem to want to engage with any critical thinking whatsoever and accept wholesale whatever is fed to them so they can go back to their sports packages and reality shows. Sounds exactly like brave new world to me: the masses had access to this wealth of knowledge but rejected it for another hit of soma while the rest of the world outside of the privileged few lived in abject poverty. Also, no natural reproduction? What hellish future is that…
