The people of Kern County clearly didn’t learn the right lessons because they kept reelecting the vile bastard whose baseless prosecutions destroyed countless lives even after the last of his victims had been exonerated. He eventually retired on his own terms in 2010. He’s also largely responsible for California reinstating the capital punishment and enacting the first “Three Strikes” laws.
I still feel icky every time I drive through Kern County.
