These people are reckless morons with no common sense or idea of consequences. Them planning to get the US ambassador beat up or even killed cannot be absolutely counted out, which is very scary.

Uh, they were physically following her around, looking for her to be alone, constantly discussing details of her security arrangements, talking about being thwarted by her increasing security… they clearly were not talking about getting her out of office. That was a different approach entirely, obviously.
These people are, at best, total fucking morons. More likely, they’re also some sandwiches short of a picnic - Hyde, one of the conspirators here, just got picked up by the police for his own protection because he flipped out and was ranting about how the secret service and an assassin were out to get him. (I’m guessing that last bit was pure projection…) But more than that, they all pretty obviously felt untouchable.
