We are too poor to have the time, but that’s fine, because we’re also too stupid to understand politics properly anyway.

So they tell us. Constantly.

“A satisfied customer is not a repeat customer”
One of the foundational pillars of advertising. The insight led to ‘anxiety’ being the go to target emotion of an add (you are too fat, too thin, too smelly, too hairy) replacing ‘comfort’ and ‘fear’ that were the earlier favorites of the ad firms.

I posted this elsewhere on the BBS just a few days ago - but it fits here too, as a parody pointing out just how true that is.

Also, there’s a reason for ‘the precariat’ and it’s deliberate.

A lot of this began in the Reagan era. Before then, establishment conservatives saw no benefit in undermining the public’s trust in government and secular civil institutions. Now (as it were) doing so is gospel on the right.

As always, in the West a lot of it comes down to recognizing how easily white supremacists and Xtianists can be manipulated to support their own economic disenfranchisement – a deliberate right-wing implementation of the Marxist concept false consciousness.

A common optimistic point for capitalism posits that people need motivation to improve themselves. Ostensibly, this means a motivation that extra effort will result in extra benefits.

However, we’ve really doubled down on motivation by fear: a lack of performance will involve a backslide down the ladder. Elites think that they’re easily replaceable, but fear shortens lives, makes solutions less innovative, and generally encourages everyone to sabotage instead of volunteering better results.

They want people desperate and these folks are absolutely correct to say it out loud.
