Pretty Cool
That’s cool; I’m still good, as I’ve never been much of a fan anyway.
Going to and fro in the earth, and walking up and down in it.
The movie is pretty amazing, but it’s definitely a dark fairy tale of sorts. I would recommend it, but i would warn that it’s a bit of a depressing movie. If you don’t have any interest in seeing it that’s fine
Is Devil’s backbone any good?
Yeah i’ve seen it once and enjoyed it a lot. Not his best movie but worth watching
I don’t ‘do’ depressing movies; that’s what reality is for.
I normally don’t either. Which is why i specifically made sure to mention that it’s depressing because being blindsided by the movie’s themes when you’re not expecting it may really turn someone off.
I had someone do this when they convinced me to watch Grave of the Fireflies. I’d never heard of it and had no idea what i was getting into. Saddest movie ever made.
Similar themes to Pan’s Labyrinth, too. Good companion piece. I do prefer his Spanish language films to the Hollywood ones, I have to say.
Is that the one where the two child protagonists die?
If so, that’s another hard pass.
As for Del Toro, his work just doesn’t move me; I guess it says something when the only movies of his that I liked were Blade 2 and Pacific Rim…
I think you’re underselling the amount of grief in the film.
Could be worse, their mother dies pretty early on.
Yeah that’s the one, and it’s soul crushing. I was not warned. I think it’s worth watching but i can’t imagine why anyone would want to subject themselves to that amount of sadness. Whenever i describe the plot of the movie to people that haven’t seen it they just Nope.
Pacific Rim was really great, i wasn’t sure how much i would like it and by the end of it i was totally in. I hope the sequel isn’t bad since Del Toro isn’t directing it himself.
Requiem for a Dream is a good laugh too.
The weird thing is that I listened to that sound track for a long time before I ever watched the film, and I really liked it.
Then I watched the film.
Now if I hear the theme my heart starts palpitating and I break out in sweat and… yeah, I mean, it’s good for a laugh.
Lux Aeterna?
Haven’t seen it; only heard about it in a funny/snarky review that I cannot find now that Im looking for it of course.
The tag line was something like this;
“Okay, okay! We’ll quit complaining about all the dead mothers and fathers in kid’s movies, as long as we never have to watch this depressing shit again…”
