‘I’m the sheriff’: Gentleman in phony cop car halted by actual lawman

Cops around here use tan Toyota Camry for their unmarked cars. I’ve seen them pull over several people on the toll road. The light is mounted behind the rear view mirror.

I knew a woman who had a dozen motorcycles. On most of them, she got the usual homicidal behaviour from car drivers. But she had three bikes on which she never had to worry about drivers cutting her off.

  1. Her 1930’s single-cylinder BMW. It was so cute and unusual looking that car drivers always noticed it.

  2. Her heavily-customised Triumph chopper. The car drivers saw it a scary biker gang vehicle (despite the rider being a 5’1” woman) and gave it a wide berth.

  3. Her ex-cop white BMW tourer. Although the markings had been removed, it still looked close enough to a cop bike that car drivers would panic as soon as they glimpsed it in their mirrors. Apparently the experience of riding it was somewhat reminiscent of Moses parting the Red Sea; the cars just scattered out of the way.

Makes me wonder if I can source the cycling gear worn by the police who use bicycles in their work.

Only semi-related, but for any Oz motorcyclists out there: Australia Post make fantastically good riding gear. Mug a postie and nick their stuff if you ever get the chance.

Yeah, that was the downside of that arrangement.

Yeah, things have changed quite a bit since the 80s. More variety these days. In almost all things.

In that case, or in general?

Part of a larger personality problem with needing to be “in authority/control” at all times maybe?

“We’re still trying to run down what he was doing with this vehicle or if he’s stopped anyone in the past,” the sheriff said. “He initially said that sometimes he helps police. I don’t know what that means.”

Beat and murder brown people?

This is so weird… First guy clearly doesn’t have “light on every floor” but the second video is bizarre. What the hell is going through his mind?!

That’s hilarious. My girlfriend and I both drive retired metermaid cars, which are awesome for parking here in San Francisco, but they occasionally scare the hell out of people, which always sucks. Basically everyone thinks we’re metermaids except actual metermaids, so it’s all the downsides (people running to move their cars, asking questions about parking, the occasional grafitti) and none of the perks (being able to park illegally). But we can still park perpendicular like a motorcycle, which we technically are, so the primary perk is still there.

Really, they make any creep a Police Officer, see San Diego City PD, why go through all the BS, just join up any PD and be an ahole for real, for life

I drive around town like a long haired bearded freak. I get none of the perks and less of the benefits.

Maybe this style?

Yes possibly but I was thinking more like this:

My ex wife’s grandfather used to have a fake lightbar and uniform he used to pull over out of state cars in rural Oklahoma where we would shake them down for bribes. I wonder if this guy was doing something similar?

I ride a white 2014 BMW K1600GTLE and can confirm that drivers see me like they have never been able to see me on any of my other rides.

Which, incidentally, is proof that the standard driver excuse of “sorry mate, I didn’t see you” is bullshit.

They see us just fine; the problem is that we are then immediately dismissed from consciousness, because we don’t register as a threat.

Unless we look like cops or 1%ers…

Not sure if you ride a bicycle but its well known that riding 50cm further from the curb doubles the intensity of your tail light.

He seems to be a man who wanted to pretend to be a cop and discovered that the funeral escort business would give him a veneer of legal cover.
