Honestly, I have mixed feelings about the show myself, but if you’re worried about bandwagoning, you probably don’t need to be. My idea there was that if you agree with most of the show, you might consider the possibility you’re wrong on the other things. The show doesn’t really push that idea though. Actually for the anti-vax show, they had a former anti-vaxer on, they were very nice to her, respectful, etc. The GMO show is just like any of the other episodes.
The first episode is probably the worst. It’s a little blunter, and spends a lot more time saying “This is true and a thing” then putting in much other context. The ice cream segment… I had mixed feelings about. Mostly because of the idea that the “straight” ice cream would really enjoy trying something else. I’d have preferred it if the ice cream maintained its flavor orientation, while… not being an asshole about it. And that’s probably the most nonsensical phrase to come out of my mouth today.
Outside of that… some episodes are better than others. The antivaccination episode is definitely better. The segments put a lot more into what the problems are and why, instead of just saying that there’s a problem. Overall, the show would have probably benefited from having a lot more actual information in it though.
So while I do defend the show, and it could be useful in some contexts, I think the overall summary of it would be: Mostly Harmless.
