I suppose they shave the fence every few years?
Words to live by.
Seems early*, but yeah… My grandfather (who instilled my birding interest) once picked up an old shoe that was sitting under the carport, and found a wren’s nest inside.
*On a visit to same grandfather’s house, we waited for a wren’s eggs to hatch, which they did – and that was in late July
Last week in my bike helmet: unsuccessful.
This week in top of the janky front porch pillar: successful.
Haven’t seen the bird responsible yet. No eggs yet. Leave it or remove it?
(Should have started this in the pets and animal thread, I suppose…)
Robins have a tendency to make nests around that size in the stupidest places possible, so thats my guess.
I am not an expert, but if this was my place: If you don’t use the area much, leave it. Maybe put a deterrent in that spot next year. If people are in and out of that area, probably remove it. Some birds are quite a territorial. Remove it soon, so the birbs have a chance to make a new one.
Lovely!
That wasn’t there a week ago, and it’ll be gone in a week. But it’s glorious while it lasts.
I was fortunate enough to be in Hiroshima in April 2018, and was able to catch the tail end of the blossoms. Quite a sight!
