Ohio class nuclear submarine. Seems to be failing at the sub part, so just a marine? If it was fully above the water it would be a supermarine.

In the background is an Independence Class Littoral Combat Ship.

I was looking at this flower, whatever it is.

I leaned in to see whether it was fragrant (it wasn’t) and the younger progeny pointed out this detail:

Ah! I grew one (& killed it) a long time ago in AUS, but didn’t know it grew in MD. This might be a different variety…?

If it has no scent, it’s a very selectively bred lantana. Those usually have a pungent scent

That’s a Chinese Lantana.

Do yourself a favor: watch from that window…don’t go down to where the (unmasked, and largely unvaccinated) crowds are! You’ll see so much better from there, anyway. It’s like your own skybox, at a fraction of the cost!

There are equal and better places if you’re willing to go further afield, but I don’t know what your plans are. These are all east of Michigan Avenue, north of the Chicago River, and walkable from the hotel. There are a number of steak places in that same area, but I wouldn’t be able to help you with them!

ETA: Marisol didn’t one-box. It’s a good restaurant, and it’s also part of the Museum of Contemporary Art, just east of the Water Tower.
