"Incel" vs Porn

Apparently this book covers Cromwell era pornography.

Understanding Pornographic Fiction: Sex, Violence, and Self-Deception

This work defends two main theses. First, modern Western pornographic fiction functions as a self-deceptive vehicle for sexual or blood-lustful arousal; and second, that its emergence owes as much to Puritan Protestantism and its inner- or this-worldly asceticism as does the emergence of modern rationalized capitalism.

What porn stash? I’m not a “boy” but tbh browsing /r/gonewild fills my needs. They have strict anti revenge porn rules so I know everyone there consents.

OTOH while I’m single and wish I wasn’t I would never use the phrase involuntary celibate… I just won’t date ppl who I’m a bad match with. (Many ppl ignore dealbreakers and stay in bad relationships imo then shame single ppl and it’s a legit problem since being ok being alone is healthy)

Like anyone I want companionship but for now I’d rather be single, have strong friendships, and look at porn

Not just being owed sex, but painting virginity as shameful.

I lost my virginity a little later than most (21) but otoh, I regret being so upset about it. I didn’t feel owed anything just shameful and worthless that I wasn’t an adult or a man or whatever. And that probably got in the way of connecting sooner.

Ironically now that I’m more interested in a long term relationship I am struggling but lots of ppl express interest in no strings stuff. (Well pre covid)

Maybe I’m old fashioned but I don’t think a relationship that was never closed can be opened.

Anyways I don’t think porn per se is the isdue. Romantic comedies like American Pie damaged my generation not porn.

OTOH my tastes are vanilla and I acknowledge there’s some really bad, abudjve, aggressive porn. But I hesitate to blame porn when the same body shaming and other harmful tropes are in r rated comedies.

We need to teach young men it’s a bell curve abs not make sex a thing on a pedestal one obtains to be a “real man”.

I was describing a situation that was common to pubescent boys of the post boomer/pre-internet era. Your mileage may vary.
