I’ve read this is used to oppress the Muslim minority in the country. Which is a common enough this, the oppression of Muslims in India, it’s been showing up in fiction (see: Ghoul on Netflix).

Something frequently pointed out, even in the court case - it was English colonialism that brought in the criminalization of gay sex, and those sculptures include depictions of same-sex relations.
